Cubic Yard Calculator

Turn length, width and depth into cubic yards — the unit landscape suppliers sell soil, mulch, gravel and fill by.

How it's calculated

Cubic feet = length (ft) × width (ft) × depth (in) ÷ 12. Cubic yards = cubic feet ÷ 27, because a cubic yard is 3 ft × 3 ft × 3 ft.

Example

A 20 × 10 ft bed filled 4 inches deep: 20 × 10 × 4 ÷ 12 = 66.7 ft³, ÷ 27 = 2.47 cubic yards.
